Hybrid Smart Switch FAQ

Everything you need to know about installation, compatibility, and daily use of your new hybrid switch architecture.

General Information

Our hybrid smart switch earns its name through its ultimate versatility. It bridges the gap between traditional wiring and modern smart homes by offering dual capabilities:

  • Bulb Versatility: It can control standard "dumb" bulbs by physically cutting power, OR it can be set to "Smart Bulb Mode" where it keeps smart bulbs (like Philips Hue or LIFX) continuously powered while controlling them digitally.
  • Control Versatility: It functions as a standard physical switch but also connects to your smart home ecosystem for app, automation, and voice control.
No! Our Hybrid Smart Switch connects directly to your home's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. You can control it immediately using our dedicated mobile app without needing any additional hub or bridge. (Note: If integrating with advanced local systems like Home Assistant, specific hub requirements may vary depending on your setup protocol).
Don't worry, you won't be left in the dark. The switch's core mechanical relay ensures it will continue to function exactly like a normal, physical light switch even if your internet or Wi-Fi network is completely disconnected.

Installation & Wiring

Our Hybrid Smart Switch is designed to be universally compatible with both modern and older homes. It can be installed with or without a neutral wire. However, installing without a neutral wire may require the installation of a small bypass capacitor (included in the box) at the light fixture to prevent LED flickering at low wattages.

Our switch natively supports physical two-way (dual-switch/multi-way) wiring schemes. You can pair one Hybrid Smart Switch alongside your existing traditional "dumb" mechanical switch to achieve complete control without needing to buy two smart switches.

The switch is rated for up to 150W for LED/CFL bulbs and up to 400W for standard Incandescent/Halogen bulbs. Please do not exceed these limits. Note that this switch is strictly for lighting and is not designed to control heavy motor loads like ceiling fans or appliances.

Features & Compatibility

Traditionally, if you turn off a wall switch, your smart bulbs lose power and go offline. When you enable "Smart Bulb Mode" in our app, the switch's internal relay locks into the "ON" position, keeping power flowing to your smart bulbs 24/7. When you tap the physical switch, instead of cutting power, it sends a wireless signal to turn off the smart bulbs digitally via your connected platform.
The switch works seamlessly with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit (via Matter/Homebridge). Once linked through the app, you can use conversational commands like, "Alexa, turn on the living room lights" or "Hey Google, dim the kitchen lights."

Yes! Jasmine Smart Homes is built for the era of intelligence. We offer native support for developer integrations and local AI agents via our Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This allows Large Language Models (LLMs) and custom AI systems to discover, inspect, and control your switches contextually.

Troubleshooting

This is a common occurrence in no-neutral wire installations paired with low-wattage LED bulbs. To fix this, simply install the included bypass capacitor directly at the light fixture (wired in parallel with the bulb). Detailed visual instructions for this are located in Section 4 of your printed installation guide.

Please verify the following connectivity requirements:

  • You are connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (5GHz networks are not supported for initial pairing).
  • You are within adequate range of your router or access point.
  • Your router does not have MAC address filtering active.
To perform a factory reset, press and hold the main switch physical button for 15 seconds. The LED indicator will begin to flash cyan rapidly, indicating that the switch has been cleared of all previous network settings, automation rules, and is ready to be paired again.
